Required Work
Below is a list of all of the required work for this class.
Journal Entries- The journal entries will be added as they are given to the students.
Storytelling:
- Film is not the reflection of reality, it is the reality of the reflection. What does this mean?
- First you hate them, then you get used to them, then you grow to need them. What does Red mean by this? How did the affect Brooks? If spent 50 years in prison and then were released... how would you feel? Happy, sad, angry? (Shawshank Redemption)
- How would you describe what a film is to someone who had never seen one before?
- Is memory important? Imagine you had no short term memory... how would this affect your life?
- What role does a character play in a film?
- What is the best movie soundtrack you have heard? What was so good about it? How did it add to the movie?
- How can a films location dictate the feeling and mood of a film?
Activities
Activity 1:
Setting the Scene: You and your partner have been hired by a film company to find the location for their next blockbuster. You must search the globe to find the perfect location.
The partners will randomly be assigned a film of a particular genre of film and must find a location for the film. The students must be able to say why they chose a particular location and how they think it will enhance the story.
Requirements:
5 Pictures of the locations
Response to why they think this location is the right one.
Activity 2:
What Makes a Blockbuster?: Pick a blockbuster from 3 different time periods and compare and contrast them. Use a Venn diagram to help illustrate this. Then write a paper on what made them so successful in their time period. Would the movie be as successful today or would today's blockbusters have been as successful earlier films history?
